While you’re scrolling through social media in your free time you can begin your own mini-investigation. Look at other popular hashtags on someone else’s feed. See what they’re using to give you ideas for your own hashtags. If they are posting about relevant material, then boom, you’ve found you some hashtags to get you started.
It will pay off. Take your time to find the perfect hashtags for your book and for your target audience. Once you’ve found your entire list, you’ve got most of the work completed. You’ll continue using those hashtags unless you write another book on completely different material.
Never Underestimate the power of the #hashtag:
Hashtags have been around for such a long time and they tend to get overdone by the friends that #hashtags #like #this #to the point that they’re #hashtagginghashtags that it’s hard to take them seriously. Newsflash! Take them very seriously. They’re such an enormous driver of Instagram traffic that you can’t afford not to use them.
I tested posting the same picture twice in a row. I posted one without hashtags and one with just to see what the payoff would be. Huge difference! I saw double the amount of engagement on the exact same photo when I used the hashtags, plus picked up some extra followers. I’m going to give you a few tips on selecting the right ones. So, make me a promise right now. You’re not going to hashtag (#dice) one more time without learning how to pick the popular hashtags that will expand your reach.
Picking popular hashtags that will drive traffic to your site through Instagram and Twitter:
Have you ever noticed that every other day is now a holiday? There’s #Nationalcupcakeday, #Nationalcatday, and #Nationaldogday. This list really just goes on, but let’s take a look at a company that had huge results from using #hashtags. It’s a company that used a campaign I’m sure that no one missed…
The share a coke initiative has been producing bottles and cans of their products labels that read the phrase “Share a Coke With,” and each can have a different name or title. Such as “Share a Coke With Mom” or “Share a Coke With Micheal.”
Coral Cola was able to successfully turn this into a hashtag campaign by encouraging drinkers to Tweet their own stories with the hashtag #ShareACoke. This campaign hasn’t just earned hundreds of thousands of Tweets, but it has also given Coke the opportunity to create new sub-campaigns. For example, submitting a bottle or can with the name “Ryan” on it could win you a chance to #ShareACoke with Ryan Seacrest.
All of us could do similar strategies without using famous actors of course. We are going to create our own unique hashtags that match our inspiring personalities. Yes, these hashtags will attract your readers to your campaign.
Go on a hunt for your tribe’s and competition’s Hashtags:
Who’s in your tribe, is it anyone that you want to attract? Maybe an author you look up to, who has built the type of campaign you want to build? The key to picking popular hashtags is simple. All you have to do is look at the type of hashtags that ‘they’ use. Whether it be your idol or just someone you want to become friends with. Go investigate their Instagram and look at the hashtags they use. I’m not saying to go and copy someone else’s work but just do a little digging to find the popular hashtags. This simple trick will help your following grow tremendously.
